Besieged by a horde of fans and well wishers at the capacity-filled Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin, it was obvious that his beaming smiles that night was not of excitement, but unbelief. At the event attended by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Ogiadomen, and the chief host, NB Plc Managing Director, Mr. Paul Hamers, Hector shone like a star.
Actually, his success story is that of man who kept a date with destiny. The 27-year old Systems Engineer from Ondo State may have been the least among those tipped for the ultimate diadem. However, fate led him to the spot where the treasure crest was buried in the crocodile creek ahead of favoured the much Tope Adewumi who was first to arrive at the spot.
It only underscored GUS III as a show filled with suspense, shock and hidden surprises. But for Hector and his fellow searchers, the shocks and pains of eviction are over, now is the time to relish the gains of participation. Amid fanfare and camaraderie, the searchers shared their moments of glory, life on Iroko camp, expectations, challenges, joys and pains of GUS III and future prospects.
